About Tsigye H Misginna

The first painting I ever saw opened a door to a world of wonder—one that would become a lifelong journey of fascination with the nature and techniques of art. From that early moment, I knew I wanted to be a painter. What followed was a path of discovery, filled with unexpected turns, new dreams, and a deep and enduring belief in the beauty and value of art in our lives.

I was born in Ethiopia and grew up in France. I have lived across three continents—Africa, Europe, and North America. This rich and varied life experience has shaped not only who I am, but how I create. Though primarily self-taught, I eagerly sought out art classes and workshops wherever I lived, including in Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Asmara. I also embraced the art of learning on my own, experimenting with pencil drawings, ink washes, acrylics, batik dyes, mixed-media collage, and digital art—whatever materials I had access to, I made my tools.

The process of becoming a painter has been both exhilarating and humbling. Finding my own artistic voice—and learning to embrace imperfection—was a journey in itself. Each challenge became an opportunity, and each opportunity opened the door to deeper exploration and expression.

Ultimately, my passion for art has given shape and meaning to my life. It has brought me joy, helped me navigate complexity, and allowed me to connect with others through shared moments of creativity.

In addition to my art practice, I studied the Humanities at the Sorbonne in Paris and at the University of California in Los Angeles.
